22 Pages In, This Book Made Me Rethink Things

Hey all,

I wanted to share my thoughts on a book I’m currently reading. I don’t read much – in fact, I haven’t picked up a book in about four years or listened to any audiobooks. Last year, I came across Simon Squibb’s book What’s Your Dream on TikTok. His content is inspiring, so I decided to give it a try. I pre-ordered the book, and it arrived a few weeks ago.

After reading just 22 pages, I had a realisation: the school system is setting us up for failure. I’ve thought this before, but the book made me reflect more deeply.

You enter secondary school at 11, and straight away, you’re told not to copy anyone. We’re taught things that won’t benefit us once we leave school, and they say, “If you don’t do well in school, you won’t get a good job.” The system is designed to trap us in a 9-5.

I’m not saying a 9-5 is bad – I have respect for people working hard to provide for their families. But the school system discourages us from taking risks and pursuing our dreams, like starting a business.

I’ve learned this from the book and encourage you to read it. I’ll keep you updated as I read more.

The key takeaway is this: don’t be influenced by the system. Keep working towards your dreams, whether that’s starting a business or taking risks. Never give up on your dreams, no matter how unrealistic they may seem.
